FAMILY MEDICINE
Unlike other specialties, a Family Physician is a specialist because of what her training includes rather than excludes.

Continuity of Care is one of the most important parts of our training and practice. It means your Family Physician is always your doctor. Even when requesting consultation with another specialist, your Family Physician retains responsibility for the supervision of your health care.

Preventive Health Care is emphasized: a Family Physician is concerned not only with treating ill ness, but also with how to keep you healthy and well. We start with a complete history on all new patients, and we recommend a complete physical at one's earliest convenience. A complete history and physical exam are necessary tools for your doctor, and are certainly in your best medical interest. The recommendations are: a yearly complete physical exam for a woman, a man over 40 or a child under 5 yrs.; for men under 40, a physical every three years.

Please feel free to ask our front-desk receptionist to check to see if your health care plan pays for an annual physical exam. The best ones do.

After achieving the M.D. degree, one must complete a specialized, three-year residency, and then pass the intensive examination given by the American Board of Family Practice. Having then become a Family Physician, this doctor must stay up-to-date on a broad scope of knowledge, by seeking every available medical education opportunity, not only to provide you with the best possible caret but also to retain accreditation as a Family Physician. There is a new re-certification exam every six years.

Family Medicine was the first
specialty to require re-certification exams to ensure quality care to those we serve.
