HIGH COUNTRY
MIDWIFERY
Our practice, our philosophy, and our mission...

We are the only joint midwifery and family medicine practice in  the region, giving you an exceptional, high quality and holistic prenatal and birthing experience.

Since High Country Midwifery operates as part of Linville Family Medicine, PA, you always have a back-up MD, who is available for consultation and /or management if needed in the event of complications. High Country Midwifery & Linville Family Medicine have excellent referral relationships with obstetricians and gynecologists in the area for further support if needed.

Births occur at Cannon Memorial Hospital's New Life Center, where you and your baby are the center of loving attention and our personalized care. If so desired, your new baby can continue receiving well-child checkups and pediatric care at out office.  At Linville Family Medicine, it is  our pleasure to provide health care for your whole family.

- Midwifery -
In the midwifery model of care, the woman retains power and authority over herself. Responsibility is in the hands of the woman, shared with her partner and the midwife. The goal is to assist the woman toward self-care as a healthy person in a state of normalcy. The mother and baby are a unit whose medical and emotional needs are complimentary; what meets the needs of one meets the needs of both. The woman's body is a well functioning home for herself and her baby. Its needs and workings are best known by the woman herself. The emphasis is on pregnancy and birth as times of physical, psychological and emotional growth for the mother and child. The childbirth is seen as an activity that the healthy woman engages in. The midwife guides and educates the woman during their experience. Childbirth is seen as an event in the lives of the woman and her family. The woman's active childbirth is enhanced by education, support, and skilled care.

- Professional and Holistic -

A certified nurse midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse with advanced training in midwifery. The nurse-midwife must complete a course of study in an accredited education program and pass an exam administered by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)

Philosophy of Care:
Heather views her relationship with her client as one based in trust and respect, and she welcomes an active dialogue as to each patient's individual needs and desires. She believes that pregnancy and births are not medical events, but rather, powerful life experiences that provide opportunity for tremendous self-growth and empowerment for the woman herself, and life long bonding for her partner and family.

Mission Statement:
Women have the right to expect competent and compassionate health care from a provider who takes the time to listen, evaluate, and educate, as well as treat them. Women deserve complete information about their health and that of their baby,  about the risks and benefits of treatments or procedures, and an exploration of alternatives to conventional medical care if desired.
